Wilsons phalorope is a fairly common spring and summer visitor here in North Dakota and I discovered this male and female pair along one of the US Forest Service roads in the Little Missouri National Grasslands this past spring (6-8-2024). They were doing a bit of bathing and wading in a relatively small pool along one of the intermittent creeks in this semi-arid region. Spring in North Dakota is always a welcome sight and once the ice clears from the waters and everything becomes green, every little pothole and puddle seems to fill with a variety of birds and wildlife.
