65 years ago today (the day we're uploading this), CTA began service by taking over operations after acquiring the Chicago Rapid Transit Company (the 'L') and the Chicago Surface Lines (the streetcars and some buses). Soon after, it would bring Chicago Motor Coach buses into the fold, as well. CTA merged three, formerly competing companies serving the Chicago area into one public entity that would focus on streamlining services, improving efficiency, and investing in better buses, cars and infrastructure for its riders. This was the ad CTA ran to announce the start of services under the CTA umbrella.
