On this day a levada walk was on the agenda. Due to the previous storm we could not reach the original starting point of our hike and so we had to follow the Levada Ribeira da Janela in the opposite direction and return the same way - not optimal, but of course very easy to see in terms of timing. So we first hiked uphill, which was very easy given the slight gradient of the water channels, and returned after about 3 hours and a break. As it turned out, it was a beautiful tour with some tunnels to cross and a great waterfall. But what inspired me even more was this green "hell" - you really felt like you were in the jungle - unbelievably and unbelievably beautiful.

Die grüne "Hölle" von Madeira
An diesem Tag stand eine Levada-Wanderung auf dem Programm. Aufgrund des vorausgegangenen Unwetters konnten wir den ursprünglichen Ausgangspunkt unserer Wanderung nicht erreichen und so mussten wir in umgekehrter Richtung der Levada Ribeira da Janela folgen und auf dem gleichen Wege wieder zurückkehren - nicht optimal, aber natürlich vom Timing her sehr einfach zu überblicken. So wanderten wir zunächst bergauf, was bei dem leichten Gefälle der Wasserkanäle sehr einfach war und kehrten nach rund 3 Stunden und einer Pause wieder zurück. Wie sich herausstellte eine wunderschöne Tour mit einigen Tunnels, die es zu durchqueren gab, sowie einem tollen Wasserfall. Was mich aber fast noch mehr begeisterte war diese grüne "Hölle" - man kam sich echt wie im Dschungel vor - unglaublich und unglaublich schön.

Für dieses Bild habe ich zwei 16mm Hochformatfotos zusammengesetzt.

Love at first sight - Madeira
Some things take a while and so it was with my first visit to Madeira. Already planned and booked for 2020, the trip was canceled due to COVID. Now the time had finally come...but this time the flight was cancelled, due to storms and bad weather in Madeira, no plane could land. So two and a half days later we went on to Madeira, arriving in the middle of the night and as if the plague was somehow in there, without luggage, which was delivered the day after next...so much for the bumpy start, but the rest of the journey was wonderful.Madeira is a paradise for hikers - and a fantastically beautiful island. A dream for photo enthusiasts, but the focus together with two friends was on hiking. And so with a heavy heart I had to limit myself to a minimum of equipment - I chose one of my Sonys with a lens, with 16-35mm and my tripod - in the end a good decision, I didn't want to carry the heavy telephoto lens up the steep mountains .

Liebe auf den ersten Blick - Madeira
Manche Dinge brauchen eine Weile und so war es auch mit meinem ersten Besuch auf Madeira. Schon für 2020 geplant und gebucht, wurde die Reise wegen COVID abgesagt. Nun war es endlich so weit...aber auch dieses Mal wurde der Flug abgesagt, wegen Stürmen und Unwettern auf Madeira, konnte kein Flugzeug landen. So ging es dann zweieinhalb Tage später weiter nach Madeira, Ankunft mitten in der Nacht und als wäre irgendwie die Seuche drin, ohne Gepäck, das wurde am übernächsten Tag geliefert...soweit der holprige Anfang, doch der Rest der Reise war wunderschön. Madeira ist ein Paradies zum Wandern - und eine traumhaft schöne Insel. Für Fotofreunde ein Traum, doch der Schwerpunkt zusammen mit zwei Freunden lag auf dem Wandern. Und so musste ich schweren Herzens mich auf ein Minimum an Equipment beschränken - meine Auswahl fiel auf einer meiner Sonys mit einem Objektiv, mit 16-35mm und meinem Stativ - am Ende eine gute Entscheidung, das schwere Teleobjektiv wollte ich die steilen Berge hinauf nicht schleppen.
