Monumento a José Manuel Estrada, designed by sculptor Héctor Rocha, was inaugurated in Plaza Lorea on November 9, 1947.

José Manuel Estrada (1842-1894) was an Argentine writer, lawyer and politician who defended Catholic thought, opposing the Secularism that characterized the government between the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century.

Plaza Lorea is part of a three hectare open space comprising three adjoining plaza at the western end of Avenida de Mayo to the east of Palacio del Congreso de la Nación Argentina. The plaza is named after colonial-era businessman Pedro Lorea who purchased the 2 hectare lot in the Piety Market Hollow that later became the parkspace.
