User / wallyg / Austin - Downtown: Grove Drug Store and Frost Bank Tower
Wally Gobetz / 48,701 items
The Grove Drug Store occupied this building from 1933 until the early 1980s. The Morley Brothers drug store preceded that as the original occupants in 1874. In 2000, the drug store was converted into Austin's Visitor Information Center.

The Frost Bank Tower, at 401 Congress Avenue, was built from 2001-2004 by HKS, Inc. and Duda/Paine Architects, LLP. At 515 feet tall with 33 floors, the postmodern skyscraper was the tallest building in Austin when opened--it has since been passed by The Austonian and 360 Condominiums--and carries the highest logo, advertising the San Antonio-based Frost National Bank, in the city at 420-feet. The silvery blue color glass facade had only been used once on one other building in the world, 3 Times Square, also known as Reuters Building in New York City.
