Completed in 1992, the TriBeCa Bridge is a pedestrian overpass spans West Street (Route 9A) at Chambers Street. The $10M bridge was built shortly after the new ten-floor Stuyvesant High School was constructed in 1989, primarily to provide safe passage for students across the busy and dangerous intersection.

Founded in 1963, Borough of Manhattan Community College, or BMCC is one of six two-year colleges within the City University of New York system and the only one in Manhattan. Originally, BMCC offered business-oriented and liberal arts education for those intending to enter the business world or transfer to a four-year college. Its original campus was scattered all over Midtown Manhattan until the mid 1970s when the City of New York started work on erecting the current campus. The current campus has been in use since 1983. Currently, with an enrollment of over 17,000 students, BMCC grants associate's degrees in a wide variety of vocational, business, health, science and continuing education fields. As with all schools in the City University system, students must complete the CUNY Proficiency Exam upon completing their second year in order to obtain an associate's degree or transfer to a baccalaureate program at one of CUNY's four year colleges.

The campus, situated on 4.28 acres, became occupied in January 1983. The modern structure, spanning four blocks from Chambers Street to North Moore Street, is equivalent to the Empire State Building lying on its side (minus the tower).

Washington Market Park, bounded by Greenwich, Chambers, and West Street, is a 1.61 acres park in TriBeCa that is popular with children for its large playground. It attracts adults for its landscaping, neo-Gothic enclosing fence, gazebo and relocated granite Art-Deco ornaments from the West Side Highway entry ramps.

Its name comes from the former market area.
