Le quartier chinois de Montréal (Chinatown in Montreal, 滿地可唐人街) occupies roughly the area of a city block on the pedestrian only section Rue De la Gauchetière. The area was once home to Montreal's Jewish community from 1890 to 1920. Many Taishan Chinese settled in the area because of its convenience to the railway occupations.

Le Grand Jean-Paul by Roseline Granet sits in the southwest corner of Place Jean-Paul Riopelle. The monument to Québécois artist Jean-Paul Riopelle was unveiled in 2005 and commissioned by the National Bank of Canada as a gift to the Quartier international.
Place Jean-Paul Riopelle, a public square built on an old exterior parking lot over the trench, a covered section of Autoroute Ville-Marie, was named in honor of Riopelle, whose fountain sculpture, La Joute was moved to the square from Parc Olympique. The fountain operates on a 32-minute kinetic sequence, a "joust" between fire and water. The square features 88 trees in an "urban forest"--eleven different species from maple to hickory, all indigenous to the Montréal area.

Jardin Nature Légère (Lipstick Forest) at the Winter Garden at the Palais des congrès de Montréal was designed by Claude Cormier from 1999-2002. Instead of trucking in potted plants, the winter garden is filled with fifty-two concrete trees, painted lipstick-pink to celebrate Montréal's flourishing cosmetic industry. Patterned after the hundred-year old maples that line the avenues in the old city, the hand-cast trunks hover between the concrete slabs of floor and ceiling.
The Palais des congrès de Montréal (Montreal Convention Center), or Palais for short, at 1001 place Jean-Paul Riopelle, is a convention and exhibition centre constructed over the trench, a covered section of Autoroute Ville-Marie. The Palais’ unique architecture is defined by the rainbow coloured glass exterior. Inaugurated in May 1983, the Palais successfully integrates three historical Montreal buildings of different eras--the Rogers and King foundry, built in 1885; Fire Station No. 20 constructed by Louis-Roch Montbriand in 1908, typical of the new architecture adopted by fire stations in the early 20th century; and the Art Deco style Tramways Building, built in 1928 and preserved in its entirety, where the STM Montréal transit authority continues to be headquartered.
