The Friar's Bakehouse, at 21 Central Street in downtown Bangor, presided over by two Franciscan monks--Brother Kenneth Leo and Borther Donald Paul of the Francican Friars of Bangor Maine, part of the Franciscan Brothers of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, has been bread, soups, sandwiches, baked goods, and good will to the Bangor community since the 1980's, moving into their current space in 1999.

In addition to bread production, the Franciscan Friars of Bangor Maine converted their hermitage into a brewery, making four styles of beer under the name of Friar's Brewhouse. The Whoopie Pie Porter is a 7.00%ABV American Porter with a slight hop aroma and a silky, sweet body with notes of chocolate and cream.

From October through March, it is the first place to view a sunrise in the United States. Formerly known as Green Mountain, it was renamed in 1919 after French explorer and adventurer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac.
