This is a rather scary sight. You probably heard the news that two escapees recently escaped an upstate NY state prison.
Well, apparently they made it the 6 and a half hours away to my immediate area. This area is just to the north of me. I live about two miles south of the NY/PA border, so I'm watching this very carefully. I've been retweeting a lot over on my Twitter and I will be for a little bit longer. Hoping for the best....

Here is some breaking news that just dropped this morning. I'll be curious to see how this transition occurs, but unfortunately for me there is no Target with in two hours of my location. So I won't be able to experience it in person. I'm hopeful some of my Flickr contacts will be able to capture the remodeling process since Target is more plentiful elsewhere.
Looks like those stores with neon pharmacy lighting may be in danger as CVS gets ready to take over....
Here's the full annoucement:

So it would appear that Sears Holdings shareholders are FINALLY getting the drift that Eddie Lampert doesn't care for the company. So they have decided to sue because they "object to the sale of valuable stores that the company happens to own to real estate investment trusts." In other words, it would appear that REIT plan (also known as Strategic Growth) has served as a wake-up call for the shareholders. It's about time! This may not change anything as far as the company goes, but at least someone is stepping up to the plate to try to save the company from "Fast Eddie's" ever certain doom.
I guess this means that the REIT stores may be transferred back to company ownage if the shareholders have their way.

So sad because this puts many malls on their death bed.
Some of these stores have followed Sears out the door, as in the case with Chambersburg and Rutland. In Rutland, the only anchor left at the Diamond Run Mall is Kmart now.
In Chambersburg, this leaves only Burlington Coat Factory and Bon Ton as its anchors, and these guys are no strangers to closing or relocating.
Susquehanna Valley Mall and Nittany Mall will probably recover as long as no other anchors close in the immediate future. These two malls are pretty upscale as I've been to both before. (No pics of Nittany Mall though)
I'm not surprised Macy's is closing Shoppingtown Mall location, but it is defintely bad news for this already dying mall. This only leaves JCPenney, Sears and Regal as its anchors now. Kind of ironic I'm posting pictures of the mall its in. Warren Kmart all over again.

Of the three Syracuse Kmart stores (soon to be only two), I'm glad I choose to go to the De Witt Kmart first. Of the three Kmart stores in the Syracuse area, I did not expect this one to go first. (I was expecting Liverpool/Clay to go first.) This store was actually rather busy when I visited.
Ironically, both Kmart locations I visited in September are now closing! While on the topic of Kmart closings, I plan to visit the Warren location sometime next month as I live much closer to this store.
Also in other closing news, the Sears in Ithaca and Auburn are closing too! I'm just now starting to see closings in my area on a rather dramatic scale....
