Nikon D50 & Nikon 80-400mm lens
This 'anvil' was only about forty yards from the one on a lateral bough shown in an earlier photograph. Perhaps the bird found that it easier to avoid dropping cones from a horizontal 'anvil' rather than this vertical one. Or it may just be that it had used up all the available niches in the tree trunk which were already holding cones.
