Clouds break away from Green Mountain above the Flatirons (Fountain formation) above Boulder, Colorado. A late spring storm dropped 6 inches (15 cm) of snow, and about 1.5 inches of moisture (6 cm) before moving out, leaving morning sub-freezing temperatures, but a beautiful mix of spring and winter behind. What made this view particularly nice is the rock was warm at the start of the storm, so only a dusting of snow stuck to it, providing a bit more texture than is usually seen after snow storms. Note the person in the lower left taking a picture slightly behind a snow-laden tree.

One of several volcanic plugs located in the southern part of the Colorado Plateau, Agathla (El Capitan) rises 1500 feet (460 m) abve the surrounding plain. The Diné (Navajo) name (aghaałą́) refers to antelope or deer fur found on the rocks from scraping the hides. The peak is sacred to the Diné and is a part of several stories and ceremonies.

Sun rays shine through the clouds as the sun slips just below the horizon of Mount Audubon in the Indian Peaks wilderness. The slight rippling of the waters of Red Rock Lake is the result of a Mallard hen and her obedient ducklings cruising the waters. The scene was so dominated by blues, that I thought a mono treatment was warranted.
