Come Away With Me - OBX NC Beach Seascape Nags Head Outer Banks North Carolina
Sunrise over the fishing pier at the beach in Nags Head, NC, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. What a beautiful morning this was, I'll always remember the feeling of standing there with the waves crashing into my legs, the smell of salt water permeating the crisp breeze, and how everything was bathed in this gorgeous warm light of golden hour. Visiting OBX is always a blast and our last trip there was no exception, always quality time spent with good friends, eating good food, and shooting beautiful coastal scenes. This year's trip is being planned now, and my yearly workshop there has just opened for booking (details on my website for anyone interested in joining us). Icon - Coastal North Carolina Bodie Island Lighthouse Cape Hatteras National Seashore OBX NC
Truly an icon of the state of North Carolina, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is a historic treasure on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore along the barrier islands known as the Outer Banks of NC. OBX, as the locals call it, is a beach vacation destination that offers many fun adventures and beautiful sights to see, including miles of pristine beaches, and it's many historic lighthouses that are definitely must see attractions of coastal North Carolina.
Early autumn mornings at Bodie Island Lighthouse are always something I look forward to, and it has become an annual ritual for me as a much needed relaxing getaway after the hectic autumn season schedule in the mountains. It's always a treat to be there during the morning hours as the low angled warm light of golden hour highlights the edges of this iconic structure making it seem larger than life, as if it extends higher into the sky than even the sun itself. The lack of visitors so early in the day really allows you time to appreciate all there is here to take in, the history of the lighthouse and the role it played in protecting people in the dangerous waters along this coast, the feat of engineering it took to build a monument like this 150+ years ago, the people who have protected and cared for this national treasure to preserve it for us all to enjoy, and the beautiful nature of the surrounding marsh lands that are rich with wildlife going on about their daily routines. No longer needed to serve it's original purpose, this lighthouse now stands as a monument to the rich history and culture of coastal life in North Carolina, an icon symbolizing much of what people love about this beautiful state. Torn in Two - Outer Banks North Carolina Sunset Seascape Photography Duck NC
Day 2 of my annual Autumn in the Outer Banks workshop this year ended with us standing in front of this awesome sunset scene in Duck, NC. An Ocean Between Us - Outer Banks North Carolina Beach Seascape Photography Nags Head NC
Stormy weather on the beach at Nags Head, NC during our yearly trip to OBX on the coast of North Carolina. I had a blast with my workshop group at the OBX last week, what a great group of folks! We saw some great sights, ate some delicious food, and spent some quality time with good friends both old and new. Unfortunately the trip turned bittersweet for me mid-week when I received a devastating phone call that my 10 year old boxer boy Strider, whom I loved more than I can put into words, had passed while I was away. The Guiding Light - North Carolina OBX Bodie Island Lighthouse Outer Banks NC Coastal Landscape
A beautiful sunrise we got to shoot over the iconic Bodie Island Lighthouse on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore during my annual autumn OBX workshops. It's always special when you get to see the good light at an iconic location like this, the incredible silence and peace of it all while most people are still in bed sound asleep, unaware of the beautiful scenes that are unfolding around them. I can still vividly remember the warm pink light on the smiling faces that were there that morning, and I can't wait to get back out that way to do it again at next year's event!
