I'm thrilled to reveal that Anger Management has taken the Natural World & Wildlife Award at the 2022 Sony World Photography Awards, organized by the World Photography Organization.
The black-and-white image of a mud-caked stallion kicking up a dust storm at Sand Wash Basin, Colorado, was selected from more than 170,000 entries in what has become the largest photo contest in the world.
“It's an absolute honor to see Anger Management win the Natural World & Wildlife category in the Sony World Photography Awards”, said Wilson, who became a committed photo-advocate for wild horse conservation after he was introduced to the beauty and plight of America’s mustangs.
“Viewing mustang behavior in the wild is a raw and invigorating wildlife experience,” he continued, describing Anger Management as "symbolic of the challenges facing wild horses in the American West, where they are being rounded up in record numbers to clear a path for livestock grazing on public lands."
Anger Management now joins 10 diverse category winners in judging for the overall Photographer of the Year title which will be announced on April 12 at the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony at Somerset House, London.
Wilson is a resident artist at Gallery 6 in Denver and was named Denver Instagrammer of the Year by Westword Magazine, shortly after moving to Colorado from his native Scotland, in 2015. Another frame in the recent series featuring Midnight Blue, a real star among many wild stallion stars at Sand Wash Basin. The feisty blue roan produced such a range of dynamic moves against that characterful Sand Wash backdrop that it seemed a shame not to add to the set. Sand Wash Basin, April 2021.
