Working in a stream means that it must be diverted in order to protect it.

A series of dams, pipes, sandbags, pumps and some really big pipes do the trick.

This was all necessary during the summer of 2014 when contractor crews seismically retrofit the supporting columns of the SR 410 Scatter Creek Bridge near Enumclaw, WA.

The crews placed steel jackets around the bridge piers which will help keep the piers stable and reduce the risk of collapse in the event of an earthquake.
