Four excavator operators must synchronize their work to lower a new piece of track called a turnout into place near Nisqually. Turnouts allow trains to move from one track to another. This turnout will allow passenger trains to start using a new route into Tacoma in 2017. The new route, which bypasses a single-lane tunnel and tight corners, will help avoid freight train congestion, cut travel time and improve on-time reliability.
