Launched in late August 2016 when Bertha passed beneath First Avenue and Union Street, #BalloonsOverBertha is yet another way to track progress on the SR 99 Tunnel Project.
The idea is to provide a visual of Bertha’s location relative to the surface. In this September 2016 photo, Pike Place Market fish mongers stand at the intersection of First Avenue and Pike Street in downtown Seattle. Here, the distance between the soles of their rubber boots and the top of Bertha's cutterhead was nearly 200 feet.
