User / WSDOT / Demolition of 70th Avenue East bridge in Fife
Washington State Dept of Transportation / 33,549 items
Over the weekend of Sept. 27-29, crews on the SR 167 Completion Project in Fife, WA demolished the old 70th Avenue bridge over I-5 at the Fife curve. The decommissioned bridge was closed in 2021 and replaced by the Wapato Way bridge.

The bridge needed to come down because it's in the way of new on- and off-ramps that will connect I-5 to the new SR 167 expressway.

Excavators fitted with specialized attachments jackhammered and tore away at the bridge, dropping chunks of concrete and rebar onto I-5 which was covered with a protective layer of sand and dirt.

The SR 167 Completion Project is part of WSDOT's Puget Sound Gateway Program, which completes critical missing links in Washington's freight and highway network.
