Close up of my vintage Northern Telecom cherry red rotary phone. It still works, and comes in handy when I need to call Batman or James Bond.

The rotary phone as we know it, or as we older folks know it, was invented in 1891, but wasn't widely used in the United States until around 1920. I still love the sound it makes when the numbers are dialed.
