Victorian chimney stack - long cold.
Snapped with a camerphone through an open car window while waiting in traffic.
Foss Island was Yorks largest frieght railway yard bringing in goods for the chocolate works and acting as the main railhead for the North Yorkshire agricultural industry. Walking in an around the area will uncover a wealth of former railway buildings and track beds such as the line looping west to join up with the York - Scarborough line at the Rowntree (Nestle) works and crossing the Huntington Road and River Foss by a land-mark, iron bridge. This line like a many others in York, is now a public cycleway and path.
Foss Island is now earmarked for major re-development including two new superstores (Morrisons and Homebase) and no doubt this chimney stack will go?
