The inscription above the entrance to this church, Canongate Kirk, reads "In 1688 King James VII ordained that the mortification of Thos. Moodie granted in 1649 to build a church should be applied ot the errection of this structure."

Double cross-over between platforms 19 and 20 at Edinburgh Waverley station permits four trains to arrive and depart 'round' each other. Our train crossed from right to left here on its way south.
