Takaosan is a mountain located in the western suburb of Tokyo. It is designated as Meijinomori Takao National Park (明治の森高尾国定公園).

Tokyo prefecture is one of the largest urban areas in the world with a population of 14 million, and the population density is 6,349 person/sq.km. It has a land area of only 2,194 sq.km, one fifth of New York Metropolitan Area.

Tama is the name given to the mountainous part of Tokyo metropolitan prefecture, and the Tama-gawa river flows through the Tama area, which is Tokyo's western suburb, and flows into Tokyo Bay just beside the Tokyo Haneda International Airport. Oume (青梅) is a city that occupies an area along the upper stream of Tamagawa river.

Okutama lake is a reservoir built at an upstream of Tama-gawa river. It is in Tokyo prefecture. This is the principal source of tap water in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
