Tumbes is located in a transitional zone of climate. Tumbes has slightly more precipitation than the rest of the Peruvian coastal areas that are characterised by desert climate.

The vegetation in the photo is called "tropical dry forest" that has an unusual appearance of trees with lichen.

Algarrobo (Prosopis) is a symbolic plant in the tropical dry forest. It survives in arid climate with very deep roots as revealed by road construction works.
