E6, the main road through Norway from Oslo all the way up to Kirkenes. South of Oslo the road continues along the Swedish west coast to Trelleborg. In Germany it continues as route 96.
When I met my wife she lived in Berlin, but we both lived just a few hundred meter from E6.
In Trondheim E6 splits in two, one going through the center of the town, one passing in the outside: Omkjøringsveien, "The road leading you around". Most of the traffic on the road is local, especially close to Christmas.

A devastating avalanche in October 1995 killled 20 people, a significant fraction of Flateyri's approx. 300 inhabitants, in one of the worst natural disasters in modern Iceland. The large ridges, more than 10 m tall, were built after the catastrophe to deflect future avalanches and protect the village.

A few minutes before you reach the top of Straumshornet, you pass this wall: It looks as if it was cut with a knife, and I remember it as more than 100 m down - possibly far more. The fjord far down is almost 1000 m below. My eldest son is looking confidently over the edge, and has nerves for a smile. My sister is a bit more careful, like most will find wise. Or, to be honest, most others would not even dare to come that close. Fortunately, you don't have to. The path passes a relieving 2-3 meter from the edge, and there are lots of other mountains you can choose instead.
