been round this road so many times
feel like its skin is part of mine

I mentioned a while back that I was working on a series of pinhole images concentrating on aspects of daily life. While that series is still far from completion, I have enough images to begin sharing a few of them.
The genesis of this idea may have been planted by one of my favorite photographers, Abelardo Morell, who did a whole series of images of his home shot from the perspective of an infant. It was an interesting study in the mundane world around him, and recreated his home into something quite other than ordinary.
And that is the gist behind these pinholes. I wanted to take the most mundane, rote moments of my daily life and find a way to capture a fresh perspective on them. I wanted to better notice these moments, which we usually coast through on auto-pilot. That, and I like the challenge of taking moments that would not normally be thought photogenic and making something creative out of them. I think it is safe to say that it is relatively much easier to get great images out of the spectacular moments, the stormy days at the beach, the brilliant sunsets and sunrise, the tense political rallies, the once-in-a-lifetime events, but what about the once-or-more-a-day occurrences? Take something that most would consider boring, and make it not. That is a fun challenge.
Anyway, I don't think I will necessarily post all of these in a row, afterall I am still building this series. But I will throw a new one up here and there.
Oh yes, and I had to do some careful planning for this shot, making sure the head of the shower would be appropriate obstructive. I did a couple of shots from other angles, but I had to dance around so much so as not to register anything that would get me blocked by Aaron or have my safe filter status revoked that I was just a human colored blur.

this taste of milk is almost gone
still got my shame, but not for long.

After the naked image of me in the shower made it to Explore (I was not too surprised) and possibly yet to Front Page (no smiley icon for rolling eyes) I thought I would post something a bit more conservative. :-p Actually that last image I think is the strongest in the series, but I have been pretty happy with how the others have turned out so far.
So, I built this series just by listing all the things I do every day, and I mean every day, and then set about photographing each one. For those perversely curious, yes that list does include using the bathroom, and no I have not figured out a creative yet tasteful way of photographing that. I don't go in much for shock and awe. ;-)
Anyway, this was Owen and I eating our breakfasts, I while reading the Oregonian and Owen was browsing Robert Frank's The Americans (upside down).

I hope to make it home one day
Doubt that day will come
I know, by now, that my days they're all gone

I realized of all the photos I have taken in this series so far, this is the only one I am not actually in. Not sure how that turned out, guess I did not want to hang around for the 15 minute exposure. The pinhole found the inside of the dryer much more interesting than I did. ;-) I think it makes it look a little like the inside of some space shuttle capsule.
Just a bit. But mostly like the inside of a dryer.

I hope you know about the long lazy road

The first in a new installment of three domesticity pinholes. I have not figured out how to actually do this shot with the oven on and glowing, without baking my pinhole over the course of the four minute exposure. I am thinking though.

Out of control the beasts unknown and untold

So, apparently much of my domestic life is spent in the kitchen. Doesn't seem like it, but the pictures keep falling from there. Or maybe these are just the most photogenic elements of that life, at least as I have discovered so far. But still working. Have a few more ideas that are photographed but that roll is not yet finished. Have a few more ideas still to photograph. I have sort of been letting this idea simmer on a back burner, snagging the photos from the ether of my imagination as they pop to the surface, but not really going fishing for them much.
It has definitely been an interesting experiment.
