Shooting oak trees draped with Spanish moss will transport the soul to a place of tranquility. It’s so quiet inside the hammock that the even the birds show a reverence for the space being quieter than normal. It rained the previous day and I hoped the resurrection ferns would be refreshed and erect apparently it didn’t rain enough for that to happen. Still it was a wonderful place to be and I had the area to myself I call that a gift. The ground was covered with a thick layer of moss that had fallen on the tall grasses and plants growing in the understory of the hammock. It doesn’t normally look like this yet remnants from the hurricanes still abound it’s not all bad it’s quite attractive and looks like a blanket and in turn will provide food and shelter for the creatures that live there.

This winter visitor is snacking on seeds from the bidens alba plant. Painted buntings give accurate meaning to the term “snow bird”. This particular male is one of the best photos I’ve taken over the years mostly because they spend most of their time foraging in underbrush making it a challenge to get a clear shot so as of 2025 there’s a new feather in my cap.

One of the coldest mornings and I decided to practice macro techniques. This is true square foot gardening petunias flank tomatoes, carrots and pak choi are sharing cramped quarters surrounded by garlic, beets and chard.

Apparently Lily was on silly pills this day, after her breakfast she climbed a tree, walked on top the fence, jumped on the neighbors house, got down and finished off with getting a drink of water from the birdbath before going off into the morning. Honestly she has a bowl of fresh water.
