Finding this lovely frost phenomenon is always a highlight for the day! Hair ice is formed when rotting wood is colonized by the fungus Exidiopsis effusa.
Shot while crouched in a patch of brambles, between stems, with my little Oly tough, and an Ulanzi VL 49 LED light.

spotted towhees are so shy. I rarely see them in profile, or facing toward me. This pose, in bush or shelter, glancing back, seems to be the most usual.
