Venice affords enchanting, inspiring and intriguing views from any part of the city.
No matter which street or waterway one travels - history, culture and much beauty abounds.
It is one of my favourite cities to visit.
On this cold but sunny and bright winter's morning, I paused and took in the splendid architecture of the Grand Canal and chose to highlight this detail here which I found to be an appealing composition, including of course the dome of Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute.

Integral to Venetian life, the gondola has been a major means of transportation for centuries.
Visitors to the awe-inspiring city now also enjoy a ride in these famous boats.
These flat-bottomed rowing boats are well suited to the conditions of the Venetian lagoon.
It is typically propelled by a gondolier, who uses a rowing oar in a sculling manner and which also acts as the rudder.
Size is around 11 m and 1.5 m wide.

The Huka Falls are a set of waterfalls on the Waikato River that drains Lake Taupo in New Zealand.
A few hundred metres upstream from the Huka Falls, the Waikato River narrows from approximately 100 metres across into a canyon only 15 metres across. The canyon is carved into lake floor sediments laid down before Taupo's Oruanui eruption 26,500 years ago.
The volume of water flowing through can reach 220,000 litres per second - the roar was tremendous, the colour of the water spectacular.

What can I do to help from here in Australia? A country where bushfire is all too familiar. The apocalyptic summer of 2019-20 is still so clear in my mind.
My heart breaks for the residents of LA, the flora and fauna. For all the loss. The coverage we are seeing here is just horrific.
I have donated to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Animal Wellness Foundation who are raising funds to assist in housing and feeding pets that were left behind by owners who evacuated.
This image is from 2009 when I was in LA last. I remember thinking then how beautiful the accommodation was surrounded by trees - but living in Australia, knew only too well the risks of being so close to forest and bush.
I understand the iconic sign and Hollywood Pilgrimage Cross are still standing, but who knows what the coming days will bring.

A composition from an area of the beautiful gardens within Nijō Castle, Kyoto, Japan.
Despite it being winter, the gardens still afforded much beauty, peace, serenity and opportunities of contemplation.
