I love living in a temperate part of Australia, but do miss the sharp seasonal contrasts that can be found elsewhere in the country - a nod to my northern hemisphere roots perhaps.
The Blue Mountains, 100km west of Sydney is one such place that offers those contrasts of temperature along with the beautiful changing autumnal foliage palette.
So come June/July, it is lovely to head there once again and enjoy the cooler temperatures - and of course those log fires and yummy hot chocolates!

Easy to forget it is summer here this past weekend what with the showers and strong, southerly winds puffing up my jacket. Still pleasantly warm though.
Up until recently, other than a risky, tide-dependent walk on the sand - the only way to this beautiful, secluded local beach was a steep, sometimes perilous descent, down through dense bush.
Council recently installed safety steps and although I don't like to see the bush messed around with in any way, I must say it makes descent and ascent a whole lot easier. This is about half way down. An impressive workout! The cliffs are so high, this is where local hang gliders launch from.
The track is sublime, offering panoramic views of Glenrock State Conservation Forest and southern coastline; the walk winds its way down to the sandy expanse of beautiful Burwood beach.
Just wonderful to immerse oneself in nature and breathe in the ocean air.

My daughter convinced me I needed some new and specific walk-engineered footwear. So I begrudgingly went shopping with her (I don't 'do' shopping'....for me, I'm in the door, then A, B, C and out the other door as quick as I can).
Well, in the end, not only did I buy my new footwear (and they really are comfortable), but new legwear and a windproof jacket too. And they were the same brand as hers! Well, there's nothing like a positive recommendation.

Watching this young boy with his surf board on the shore in the early morning light was a lovely, peaceful moment. He stood there for such a while in thought, contemplating the ocean before him.
