Just a few of mm in length and one of the most brightly coloured invertebrates I have seen.

Not an insect, but an arachnid within family Trombidiidae. As adults, velvet mites are predators of insects, other arachnids, insect larvae and eggs.

Also commonly known as rain bugs because of the way more of them are seen after rain.

They live in leaf litter and organic matter and I saw this one scurrying across a forest floor.

4 mm body length.
