M65 Group or Leo Triplet

M65 Group, otherwise called Leo Triplet, is with M51 among the best-known examples of galaxies interacting with tidal stellar streams.
The three galaxies are clearly interacting and, thanks to a specific image process, we are able to highlight the structures in the respective haloes. Although always with peculiar characteristics, structures produced by a first episode of fusion can be traced back to some recurring typologies.
We often find ring-shaped, hook-shaped, shell-like and thread-like structures. Much more complex are secondary mergers, i.e. those produced by the gravitational embrace between large galaxies in groups or clusters.
The latter are not the subject of our research, both because they are well reproduced by N-body hydrodynamic simulations, and because the capture and destruction of globular clusters and dwarf galaxies is of greater interest as a process of hierarchical formation in the context of the standard cosmological model called Lambda-CDM.
The census of such structures is far from complete and we have been able to demonstrate with some already published studies that the occurrence of "obvious" interaction structures is around 20%.
Evident is an exaggeration because such structures are very faint, with typical magnitudes of 26 arcsec-1 or fainter. Even the quietest galaxies, when analyzed in depth, always exhibit interaction structures of extremely weak luminosity.
