Traffic is light this morning on Lakeshore Drive in North Fond du Lac, as this Stevens Point bound freight pulls up for a double in the south yard before departing.

After stalling on the grade east of Hubbleton the previous evening, the train was cut off and tied down. The crew took one car back to Portage while getting very short on time, with two locomotives (1 of which had traction motors cut out) so they could run track speed. The following morning, three locomotives were sent out to gather up the loads of ballast and return to Portage. Here, The Canadian Pacific Kansas City ballast loads cross the Crawfish River, while heading for Watertown on Wisconsin & Southern's Watertown Sub. Once the train reaches Watertown, they will pickup additional ballast loads before proceeding on to Portage.

A frigid afternoon in Waukesha finds us tucked in the clear on the controlled siding, with the Wisconsin Central's YO981 ahead. Once the WC 6494 east clears us, the WC east dispatcher will line us out of the north end of the siding where we will back out onto the main track, and then we will proceed east to Grand Avenue and clear onto the new WSOR Southern Division through the hand throw switch. From there we will head west towards Milton to meet the crew from Janesville for interchange.

August is just about finished in the north-woods of Wisconsin, while this lone apple tree on the bank of the Brunet River hangs low with it's tasty fruit. I can't say what the chances are that an apple tree ended up planting it's roots here, but I did partake in it's offering of fruit and tranquility while sitting and listening to the deafening sound that the natural world has to offer.
