Armed with the trusty Kodak Instamatic loaded with a fresh cartridge of 110 film, I am freezing my can off to catch the eastbound patrol departing Oconomowoc after taking care of the local customers. The trailing unit, MILW 169 was set out the previous day during the snowstorm on the Carnation spur to my left, for a locked axle. During the night, the diesel house came out and cut the pinion so it could be taken to Milwaukee for a new traction motor. The images are sketchy from those days, but the memories are as fresh as the wind driven snow.

A fine July afternoon finds The Milwaukee Road's Sprint train 211 rushing through Oconomowoc with a pair of classic GM products.

Looking like a scene from 1949, with The Milwaukee Road's famous skytop lounge bringing up the marker on an eastbound Hiawatha in the Wisconsin Dells, I love the old time feel this photo puts out. Very reminiscent of a time when rail travel was all the rage. This image was taken on May 15, 2015, looking across the Wisconsin River at the Wisconsin Dells. The beautifully restored Milwaukee Road passenger cars were heading for Chicago on the tail of Amtrak's eastbound Empire Builder.

With me running behind schedule, I got to Watertown Plank Road in Wauwatosa to catch the classy marker rolling under the Union Pacific's steel bridge, only to find Plank Road bridge under construction. There wasn't much time to realize that if I didn't do something quick, the train would be missed. So I got the hell out of there as quickly as I could and rushed to Brookfield depot. Not exactly what I had in mind when I went east to catch Amtrak's eastbound Empire Builder, but a fair consolation prize I guess, with a Milwaukee Road built observation rolling past a still standing Milwaukee Road built depot in 2018.

The chill in the winter's air is momentarily warmed, as Milwaukee Road train 202 muscles it's hot freight through Oconomowoc at Worthington Street. The 199 that is leading today, is still serving Wisconsin, on the Wisconsin & Southern railroad as their WAMX 4178.
