The late October sun is setting fast on the classic A-B-A set of Keokuk Junction FP9 A units and F9B unit, as they roll into the historic town of New Philadelphia. I caught the train sitting at Good Hope, where it was staged the previous evening. After sitting and waiting for several hours, a crew finally showed up to interchange with their counterpart as the sun was starting to race to the western sky rather quickly. I was able to chase the classic F's from Good Hope to New Philadelphia before the sun was finished for the day. A very long drive for a very short chase was alright with me I guess. I found the town history quite interesting. New Philadelphia Illinois was the first town platted and registered by an African American before the American Civil War. New Philadelphia was founded by formerly enslaved "Free Frank" McWorter in 1836 as a money making venture to buy his family out of slavery. It's black and white residents lived side by side in this prairie town according to Census records, but the dead are buried in cemeteries separated by color.

KJR's beautiful set of FP9's,separated by a B,round the curve on their eastward trek out of Bushnell Illinois after a little short work downtown. This is a road trip that I need to repeat if these first generation streamliners are still active.

Keokuk Junction's fine looking FP9's roll into Bushnell Illinois over a right of way that looks more like a Milwaukee Road secondary line back in the seventy's. This railway is a must see for anyone wishing to get the feel of how things used to be. The chase is painfully easy to do,with the average track speed of 10mph. Lets go !!

The autumn sun has called it a day, as the trio of Keokuk Junction's Classy F units marches eastward toward Mapleton.

The late October sun is racing for the horizon, as Keokuk Junction Railway's classic set of F's depart Bushnell Illinois eastbound, by the westbound distant signal that protects the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad. As soon as the greens are back on the trees, this is a must visit railroad again.
