The Eastern curlew is listed as critically endangered in Australia, with global populations estimated to have declined by 80% in the last 30 years.
As a wading bird that travels across our earth, they rely on intertidal mudflats for food and habitat. But along their migration route, these mudflats are being developed or eroded, placing these beautiful birds at risk.
The Ramsar-listed wetlands of Toondah Harbour in Moreton Bay is one of their last strongholds along the east coast.

A small Australian stiff-tailed duck. The male has a slate-blue bill which changes to bright-blue during the breeding season, hence the duck's common name. The male has deep chestnut plumage during breeding season, reverting to a dark grey. The female retains black plumage with brown tips all year round.

I often photograph flowers of all kinds, but almost exclusively in their original location. This leads to very candid shots where the total beauty is the flower itself (i.e. not the setting so much).
However, with this shot, I feel like I actually got a nice, somewhat "arty" shot with the blossoms still on their twig on the tree.
