The Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna) is related to cowbirds and orioles. It lives in open grassy places, where it forages among the grass plants, similar to European Starlings.
Although the front of the bird is almost entirely a bright golden-yellow color, the streaked back provides excellent camouflage. When scared, these birds are more likely to lie flat in the grass than to immediately flush.

A shot of a Savannah Sparrow (Passercula sandwichensis) doing its best impression of a quail or a pitta.
These compact, notch-tailed sparrows live in meadows and grasslands, but their name comes from the location at which they were first described to science: Savanna, Georgia, USA. They look like many other sparrows at first glance, but pink legs, a pink bill, and yellow feathers ahead of the eye add a splash of color.

It's Winter. The birds are fluffed up. Some of them are still brilliantly colored, like this adult male Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis).

On January 13th 2025, the Moon occulted (passed in front of) Mars.
This is the first time I have attempted to capture such an event on camera, and one of my first ever composite images. I am pleasantly surprised with the results and quite proud of this image even though it is not be pro quality.
