Along the storied Bloemfontein-to-Kimberley line, where steam once reigned supreme, the bustling watering stop of Kloofeind was a vital lifeline for the iron horses that roared through. Standing tall and proud, the water tower was a landmark, visible from miles around.
Today, the water tower remains—a steadfast sentinel of the past. But rather than quenching the thirst of steam locomotives, it now shelters a flourishing collection of cacti, thriving within its grasp.
As a nostalgic reminder of days gone by, the sound of steam returned to Kloofeind, as Class 25NC No. 3437 chuffs past with a chartered Farrail freight, retracing the historic route between Kimberley and Bloemfontein.
