Her name is Willow, a rescue dog, estimated to be around 11 or 12 years old. She is a mixed breed and has an extra dew claw on each foot.

Red kangaroo pee crystals under a microscope. Colors appear under Nomarksi illumination - a form of polarization. These are naturally occurring crystals that appear as the liquid dries on a microscope slide. The urine was collected and analyzed as part of a routine health exam. Instead of discarding the microscope slide with the urine on it, it is allowed to dry during which the crystals precipitate out in tiny geometric patterns. The sample was collected for veterinary laboratory analysis not for the purpose of making images. Images were taken on my own time several days later when crystals have developed. No animals were injured in the production of the image.
