Taylor, the sax and clarinet virtuoso, is one of the busiest jazz musicians in Toronto. At least, I get to hear him every week at least once. He graduated from Humber in 2019, but played gigs even before he finished the college. Equally proficient on clarinet and sax, he joined his one-time professor Andrew Scott trio (Jon Meyer-bass and Amanda Tosoff-piano) at La Rev. This Mexican Restaurant is popular with jazz lovers and the food is good too. Later in the set, 2 vocalists, who were in the audience, also joined the band.

Roberto Fonseca is one of the best jazz pianists in the world. He makes the piano sing, cry, laugh. Emotions flow from his body to his fingers and emerge from the keys and strings. This was taken during the final concert and the last tune of the Havana Jazz Festival at the Teatro Nacional ( built 1951-1979!). Fonseca selected some of the top Cuban jazz musicians to be with him on stage, but at this instance, he was alone with the 2200 people in the audience.

Jay Bleus is a man in love with the blues. From busking in the streets of Toronto, he graduated in short time to be in the best blues joints in the city. His fluent and unique guitar playing and his voice are made for the blues. Jwoel “Jay” Benn has emerged as a highly talented and original singer. I seen him first time in Nov 2024 and went to see his trio at the Rex Hotel. He had a sell-out crowd at the Rex and seemed to me they were all his friends. The talented guitarist (Jimi Hendrix- watch out ) was part of Rex Sunday afternoon JazzInToronto's Songbird Series. With Kyle Colesanti – Bass and Paul Domanski - Drums.

Sunday band at the historic "Grossman's Tavern" brings in some stalwarts and some surprises. There is always room for a guest and this time it was Fred Spek and Ben Harvey both on tenor saxophones. They both lead their own bands and with resident sax player Toby Hughes they had lots of fun. The leader of the 'New Orleans Connection' is Chuck Clarke on trumpet, Charlie Trainor sits on the piano bench and Jack King plays banjo on this day, as he often does since about 1980.

Sweet and swinging Country Music sounds from 'Colonel Tom and the American Pour', with Tom Parker, Peter Hill, Glenn Anderson, Rob Fenton, Sam Petite and Alex Pangman. Good time and dancing in the hay at the Distillery District. Redhead Alex Pangman, who could have been a Botticelli model, had a busy year. The singer does not perform indoors in public due to her immunity compromised condition after double lung transplant. She is a radio host at JazzFM and had mostly on-line concerts during the lockdowns. It's a miracle that she is still singing. I've seen her few times in 2024, but at least 2 concerts were postponed due to rain. Gooderham Distillery (1837) was closed in 1990, but Mill Street Brewery is making beer on the old grounds. Alex and Tom met at the Distillery and got married about 10 years ago.
