Great time as always. 'Happy Palls' play every Saturday at the old Grossmans Tavern since 1971. I am sure there may have been few missed performances in the past, but never this long. The music died on March 15, 2020 and this was their first performance since. Patrick Tevlin, the leader on trumpet plays almost since the beginning and Charlotte McAfee-Brunner (trombone, singer) joined about 3 years ago. Mike Evin usually plays piano, but nobody was willing to move it outdoors, so he brought his accordion.

Canada Day was not really celebrated the second year in the row. First the Pandemic restrictions and this year the discovery of unmarked graves of hundreds of children in the residential schools run by the Catholic Church, shortly before July 1. Not really a surprise, but still a big shock for the country. Chuck Clarke is trumpet player, singer, drummer and leader of several traditional jazz groups.

It sounded like Jingle Bells and Darvish told me it's the Persian version. The 'dotar' player often sighted on Bloor West in Toronto and has a good rapport with pedestrians. On this sunny, but cold afternoon, only few people walked on the street to contribute some coins into his instrument case.

Jim Cuddy is not really jazz musician. He is however very popular Canadian singer and songwriter. His band Blue Rodeo has many fans and he has many friends in the musical community. His surprise show at the 'Supermarket' was quickly sold out. Usually he plays bigger venues, but his performance was more or less favour to Kensington Jazz and it was short subway ride from his home. Anne Lindsey was on violin and Mike Boguski on piano. This year the Kensington Jazz Festival is scheduled to be on-line. Hope it still can change till October.

Toby Thumbs Hughes, one of my very favourite saxophonist in Toronto at historical concert in Bickford Park in Toronto. Historical, because in was the first live concert of New Orleans style music performed in the city since middle of March 2020. There is a slight resemblance between Toby and Dan Aykroyd (the original blues brother). Toby is probably 25 years younger, but they both are doing what they love. Toby leads several bands in Toronto and his roots are firmly in the city.
