The springs and caves of Ash Meadows near Armargosa, NV are home to an endangered, endemic species of Pupfish. One group in the Devils Hole Cave only numbered 263 in Sep 2022. They are relatively safe in the cave but those that live in the open springs are more vulnerable to environmental hazards and predation from invasive fish species introduced by humans. Since 2020 there has been a concerted effort to trap the predatory Green Sunfish in particular, which has now almost been eliminated. The Pupfish are showing a population rebound.
