On an inaugural run yesterday, Canadian Pacific train 576-390 knocked down the first lights at CP 24, a control point to the north of Bellevue, Iowa. Seen here is train 576, plying ex-Milwaukee Road rails as it exits the street run section through Bellevue using the new Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) signaling. CP has been installing CTC on most of the Marquette subdivision, as well as other subdivisions to the south in preparation for the CP / KCS merger. It’s hard to believe I spent three years of my career working out here nearly a decade ago.

Train 130s has departed Fairbanks and is approaching Ester, Alaska. Parts of the mainline on the north end of the railroad are susceptible to shifting due permafrost, as seen here. The ARRC spends quite a bit of money on maintenance to help counter Mother Nature's powerful forces.
