An another set from the March 2012, 368 chase.
Waking up at 2 a.m and doing the 2h30 drive toward Garneau Yard put us a bit before 368's calling time. Snow melting from the earlier rain made some interesting night shot as the fog slowly started surrounding everything.
368's crew are homeward-bound today, ready to attack their 161-mile long run over the tortuous Lac St-Jean subdivision. A quick stop at the yard office to grab their paperworks from the night yardmaster and they throttle up into the night bound for the north end of the yard and ready to start their triple over.
In less than an hour, the familiar tone of the Lac St-Jean subdivision dispatcher will echo over the radio, and 368's conductor will ask for a northbound OCS clearance back home, wish including a meet with M369 at Hegadorn, 77 miles distant from here.

The chase is on.

It's 05:44 and 368's crew are still at the hotel, probable packing their stuff for the incoming taxi ride toward the yard. L542 and L566 power are also bathing in the morning fog as idling GE and EMD prime movers can be heard over the distant sounds of GP9RM 7246 kicking cars into the classification tracks, building the four different trains Garneau's will dispatch today.

It's seventeen minutes pass 8 a.m as daily Toronto - Chambord M368 rumbles by the VIA Rail station in Hervey Junction, merging point between the line going to either Senneterre or Jonquière.
Warm temperature over the night, including a rare -for this time of the year- thunderstorm in early morning, made a thick fog appear, as the snow melted under the rain.
M368 will meet its counterpart, M369, at Hegadorn, a 8000 foot remote siding deep in Quebec's wilderness at milepost 77 of the Lac St-Jean subdivision.
But for now, the chase is on for the next 30 miles, where the track will disappear into the forest.

A popular location over the chaseable part of the Lac St-Jean subdivision, "Club Arlo" feature a nice overlook from highway 367 along with two set of S curves with a beautiful river next to them. There's plenty of photographic possibilities.
With a heavy cut of loaded acid cars fresh from the CEZ plant in Valleyfield,QC, M368 slowly rolls over the roller-coaster track profile of the Lac St-Jean subdivision as the morning fog slowly lift away from the ground.

With M306 rapidly approaching on the #3 track in background as seen from an almost empty Coteau yard, the crew of L536 job is at work retrieving an lone "Trudeau hopper", set out earlier in track QO67 by train G874 with an overheated bearing issue.
The problematic car will be promptly moved toward the assigned B/O track before 536's engines will be shut down in track QO44 and the crew head for the office to call it a day.

CN 7512, an GP38-2 modified back in 1978 from road to hump service, is now back on the mainline jobs with inside and outside cab cameras, microwave, fridge along with an IDU box, enabling train operation with a TIBS. It was still configured for long hood operation and lacking a cow catcher on either end giving a 25MPH restriction any time it was in leading position.

7512 was delivered new to Canadian National as their 5547 back in early 1973.
