Grinding the east slope of Peru Hill since it's crew change at Green River about five miles back, four Union Pacific GE motors have a westbound loose freight in tow, fighting against gravity on the busy Evanston subdivision.

A short edition of BNSF daily (?) Denver to Provo trackage rights train rolls down Gilluly loop over former Rio Grande territory enroute for Provo in a 3+2 power configuration.
I am still totally amazed by watching a train going downgrade at this location.
Too bad I missed Utah Railway's era of RS3 and RSD15 on the hill along with the much more busier Rio Grande's days.

Luckily for me but less for the Edmundston-based crew, some issues with the GEVO leader that morning in Québec City's Joffre Yard occurred and trailing unit, in this case a member of the now retired fleet of CN's C40-8M, were put in charge of M306, the daily manifest linking Toronto,ON and Moncton,NB.

Flanges are squealing over the surrounding mountains as M306 coasting on the downhill grade averaging between 1.2 and 0.8% since Pelletier summit some five miles behind, CN 2454's dynamic brake sound could be easily recognizable over it's sister, trying to hold over 9000 tons of loose freight on the grade toward Pohénégamook as the train thunder over the 845 foot-long trestle spanning over Boucanee river.
The former National Transcontinental Railway line in this part of the province avoided the United States territory by only a few feet when it was built and as the train will pass thru the village of Pohénégamook in the next 20 minutes or so, the engineer on it's side will look at the United States while the conductor will be graced with a beautiful view of Pohénégamook Lake on the Canadian side of the border.

Sadly, only two pair of trains per day now polish the ribbon rails of the Pelletier subdivision.

ALCo 251 prime movers momentarily disturb the quietness of the deep forest as 3600 horsepower unite their forces working tonnage upgrade in the last hundred feet or so before topping the grade out of Cascapedia - St-Jules.
Right behind me, it's the beginning of a 7 mile-long descent toward New-Richmond, the operational hub of the railroad along with where the crew will call it a day after a 70 mile-long turnaround trip to Matapedia.

CN's hottest train in Eastern Canada was definitively Z120 and his counterpart Z121. With an early arrival in Montreal from Toronto's BIT Yard, it was a favourite catch for photographer who want a decently lighted picture.
With early morning dew still all over the ground, two of CN's fleet of SD70M-2 rolls Z120 into a 50MPH temporary slow order just east of Coteau, with hundreds of containers trailing behind, bound for the port of Halifax.
