A snowshoe hare, a true symbol of resourcefulness, measures between 18 and 20 inches when standing. The trail cam captured this hare, cleverly reaching for some spruce tips for an early morning snack. I was struck by its height when standing. It's a good thing it didn't pull the branch any harder, as I am sure it would have received a head full of snow.

As I watched the trail cam footage of the ermine popping up from the snow in various spots, I was struck by their agility, which was reminiscent of the arcade game Whack a Mole. Ermine, ever active and adaptable, are a wonder to behold in all seasons. In winter, they navigate the surface of crusted snow and burrow through soft snow with such grace, occasionally popping their heads above the surface, seemingly to plan their next move.

Dozer and I share a special bond that's evident in every walk we take, no matter the distance. His excitement at the pond, where he runs full speed in circles, is a testament to our connection. After our walks, he gets his treat and snuggles down for a nap, a routine that strengthens our bond. He's not just a great hiking partner, he's my companion.

Imagine this: Herman the Ermine, a rare sight, spotted at 2 a.m. in the chilling -7 degrees of the night forest. The trail cam captured his swift movements, which I slowed down for you to witness. His speed was so rapid that a blink could have made you miss him.
