Highway descending into the canyon and into the snowstorm. This is a road that you can pretty safely stand in the middle of. There's very little traffic out there, especially when the weather is like this.

I was hiking around this finger of the lake (which is in the Texas portion of the Canadian River Canyon) with my sister in early January. While she was rockhounding, I was snapping photos of this backlit scene just before sunset.

An awesome sunset over the rangelands of the Ocate volcanic field. I felt like I nearly froze my fingers while taking a ton of different shots of this sunset. It was just me and the cold wind out there...and a few cows and elk here and there.

A ferruginous hawk prepares to take off from a wooden fence post. I shot this from my vehicle on a frigid day in northeast New Mexico. This hawk was very nervous about my presence, and it was difficult to get shots. I had to try to photograph such a magnificent bird, however.
