This carved head with eyes made of inlaid sea shell (abalone?) is part of the decoration of the Maori Meeting House - Hinemihi - in the garden at Clandon Park, a National Trust property in Surrey.
According to Wikipedia, Hinemihi was originally situated near Lake Tarawera in New Zealand and provided shelter to the people of Te Wairoa village during the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886. The building was covered in ash and surrounded by volcanic debris, but its occupants survived. It remained half buried until 1892 when the 4th Earl of Onslow, then Governor General of New Zealand, had it removed and shipped to England as a reminder of his time in NZ.

This is part of a group of traditional Maori dancers performing at Clandon Park, a National Trust property in Surrey. The dancers come from Ngati Ranana, a UK based club promoting Maori culture.
The performance is staged at Clandon Park several times a year: the link is that Clandon is home to Hinemihi - the only Maori Meeting House in the UK. This is a wooden building, sited in the grounds of the property, which was transported from New Zealand by the owner of Clandon Park, the 4th Earl of Onslow, as a reminder of his time as Governor of NZ in the 1890s.
