After having endured a roller-coaster flight from Phoenix to Flagstaff, AZ, it was nice to see a beautiful sunset just as we were about to reach our first night's destination, Tuba City. From here we will be visiting some of the little-known but magnificent canyonlands in northeastern Arizona -- namely Coal Mine Canyon and Blue Canyon.
My brother, John, picked us (Walter and me) up at the Flagstaff airport and will be guiding us on a whirlwind tour of some fabulous photography sites. Tonight, at the motel, we met one of our great flickr friends from Italy. She and her nephew will be joining us in the early morning light to our first location shoot.

We got up before sunrise and drove to Ha-Ho-No-Geh, a branch of Coal Mine Canyon. We had planned the trip to meet a flickr friend and her nephew from Italy. Coincidenally, it was the time of full moon, so when it is sunrise, it is also moonset.
The rock formations are quite striking in the early moring light -- sort of ghostly. I could almost feel the Native American spirits around me as the sun rose and the moon set...
