On this occasion, the sunlight filtered through an overhanging bush nearby created attractive patches of lights over this matforming evergreen plant. Taken in the garden. Die Nussdorfer Schleuse am Donaukanal ist ein technisches Bauwerk, das der Regulierung des Wasserstandes im Kanal und der sicheren Navigation zwischen unterschiedlichen Wasserständen dient. Sie ermöglicht es Booten und anderen Wasserfahrzeugen, den Übergang zwischen verschiedenen Abschnitten des Kanals zu meistern, indem sie das Wasser in kontrollierter Weise anhebt oder absenkt. Zudem fügt sich die Schleuse oft harmonisch in das städtische Umfeld ein und bietet interessanten Einblick in die wasserbauliche Infrastruktur, die auch ein bedeutender Bestandteil der urbanen Geschichte und Technik Wiens ist.

Die Nussdorfer Wehr- und Schleusenanlage wurde zwischen 1894 und 1899 errichtet und ist ein markantes Beispiel der Wiener Moderne. Ihr Erbauer, Otto Wagner, zählte zu den visionärsten Architekten seiner Zeit und prägte das Stadtbild Wiens nachhaltig. Mit seinen innovativen Entwürfen und der Einbindung dekorativer Elemente – etwa den von Rudolf Weyr gestalteten Bronzelöwen – schuf Wagner ein Bauwerk, das Funktionalität und ästhetische Exzellenz eindrucksvoll vereint.

The Nussdorfer lock on the Danube Canal is a technical structure designed to regulate the water level in the canal and ensure safe navigation between different water levels. It allows boats and other watercraft to transition between various sections of the canal by raising or lowering the water in a controlled manner. In addition, the lock often blends harmoniously into the urban environment and provides an interesting insight into the hydraulic infrastructure, which is a significant part of Vienna’s urban history and technology.

The Nussdorfer weir and lock system was built between 1894 and 1899 and is a striking example of Viennese Modernism. Its designer, Otto Wagner, was one of the most visionary architects of his time and left a lasting mark on Vienna’s cityscape. With his innovative designs and the incorporation of decorative elements – such as the bronze lions created by Rudolf Weyr – Wagner created a structure that impressively combines functionality with aesthetic excellence.
