It's a bit of a hike, started pre-dawn to catch early light. But this view in Arches National Park is quite an amazing destination. Even more so if you accidentally manage to get off the path and go up the inner side of the mountain on a true goat path, rather than on the trail.

The Maroon Bells are two mountain peaks of the Elk Mountains, in White River National Forest, near Aspen Colorado. Maroon Lake is nearby, lending itself graciously for amazing early morning reflections such as this one.
The early autumn snowfall that dusted peaks over 10,000 ft in the region adds an extra texture as it outlines the sheer rock faces of the peaks.
AND we were fortunate to also visit at the time of the aspens still showing off their autumn glow, adding wonderful colors to the scene.

We visited Rocky Mountain National Park, and the rut season was in full swing.
The bulls were busy gathering up their harems, and the young bulls were trying to figure out a way to gather a herd of their own. Quite an experience to see!
We did not witness any clashes, but did see the aftermath with a couple of young bulls with broken antlers and bloodied faces.
The bugling is a high pitched cry that echoes through the valleys. It is a challenge from one bull to another.

Our time in the Maroon Bells/ Snowmass area was timed perfectly to see the aspen in their autumn glory. I love the bright white trunks against the golden leaves.

Asters are the birth flower for September-- they seem to grow everywhere. I especially love these with the large purple blooms
