Pacific National's diesel electric locomotives NR20 + NR57 + NR112 work a down container freight train pass the tiny railway station at Telerah, N.S.W. Australia.

This location is the very beginning of the single line track which stretches all the way to Brisbane in the State of Queensland. The distance to travel will be about 800 kilometres or 500 miles. As the single track line is very busy there are many passing loops provided to allow trains to pass when operating in opposite directions. At times fast trains travelling in the same direction will be allowed to run through or overtake slower trains that have been placed in a crossing loop. Some of these passing loops can be up to 1800 metres in length.

Pacific National is the largest operator of trains in Australia and its trains run to all mainland States. The Company also runs trains on the Island State of Tasmania.

CountryLink XPT 2006 + 7 cars & XPT 20xx trailing on NT 36 up service from Grafton to Sydney is about to pass under the New England Highway overbridge at Telerah, NS.W. Australia.

The train is just about to leave the single track section of the north coast line and will soon to be able to travel at much higher speeds once it has made its stop in a few kilometres at Maitland. Due to the Easter period and the school holidays the train has been built up to seven carriages.

Queensland Railways (QR) National diesel electric locomotives 5002 + 5007 working a down empty coal train that is passing the railway station at East Maitland, N.S.W. Australia.

Queensland Railways was for the most of its history just a state operation. Always run by the Queensland State Government its network was confined to the narrow gauge network in that State of three feet six inches. However for a number of years now it has embarked on expansion plans and now operates freight trains both coal and container workings through out Australia.
